An all-female crew at Gage Roads Brew Co have teamed up with Pink Boots Society Australia for the fifth year running, to release a limited-edition beer, Shred Betty Juicy IPA, that funds scholarships to support the progression of women in the brewing industry.
Shred Betty comes in at a punchy 5.7% ABV and brings juicy passionfruit, mango and grapefruit vibes from a killer hop trio of Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe. Pouring with a gentle haze, this brew is silky smooth with a balanced bitterness. “The brew was fermented with Tropicale yeast, which during fermentation interacts with compounds in the hops to intensify tropical character such as passionfruit, mango and grapefruit.” says Gage Roads Freo head brewer Simone Clements.
Proceeds from the sale of Shred Betty will fund $10,000 worth of scholarships through Pink Boots Society Australia to help progress the education and development of women in the brewing industry. This release will mark $40,000 in scholarships that Gage Roads has funded to date.
Last year’s scholarship recipients included Jessika Hernandez (Asahi Beverages), Ayla Young (Voyager Craft Malt), Lisa Ethe (Tallboy & Moose), Jessica Wright (Good Drinks Australia) and Sarah Tindall (Rocky Ridge Brewing Co).
Gage Roads Brew Co brand manager Mimi Crompton says she’s proud of what the all-female crew have delivered. “This is always such a fun release to work with the Gage Gals on. Not only is Shred Betty a great tasting beer, but it’s also doing something great in helping to support the progression and empowerment of women in the industry – something I’m really passionate about. Over the years we’ve grown our partnership with Pink Boots Society Australia, and we can see the positive results these scholarships are having. Cheers to that!”
Gage Roads Brew Co designer Sophie Osborn says this packaging design has been one of her favourites. “Originally we had called it Big Betty, after our Gage-branded FJ40 Land Cruiser. But in seeking some visual inspo for the design, we found some awesome imagery in old 80s surf magazines with female surfers (colloquially known as a “Betty”) shredding it up. So it felt really right to call this release Shred Betty. I love the big colours and “thrasher” vibes.”
Shred Betty Juicy IPA launches on International Women’s Day (March 8), available on tap and in 500mL cans across WA. First pours will kick off at
Gage Roads Freo (shouting schooners from 5pm, until the keg runs out), at Livid Skate Café’s “Beneath The Surface” event, and at a range of other pubs and bars across the state.
