Beer Stuff: The Perfect Pour

[large-text]If you only learn one thing from us, it should be this: Drink your beer from a glass. Pouring your beer into a glass opens it up, releasing all of its flavours and aromas. And, despite what your grandad and his bowls club might think, head is your friend. A decent bit of head on your beer helps trap in all of things that make beer fantastic like hop aromas and yeast esters. How much? 1-2 finger widths is a good measure for most beers. Now, let’s pour, shall we?[/large-text]
Gage Roads Brewery - The Perfect Pour

  1. Start with your glass at a 45 degree angle. As you pour, aim for the middle of the glass wall.
  2. Once you’re about half full, straighten up and pour directly into the middle of the beer.
  3. Increase the distance between the bottle and the glass to help “inspire” better head.
  4. Consume. Repeat.

While a good pour is an art, we’re confident these steps will get you on the right track. Cheers!
Fun fact: The head contains about 30% beer and 70% carbonation. Releasing that fizz from the liquid means the head forms in the glass not your stomach – a plus for anyone who feels that beer is too “bloating”.
