Precision, technique and timing is everything when it comes to craft beer. Fortunately for our Brewery Team Leader Ross Brown, years of training have left him a master in all of the above. Despite an extensive and impressive list of rowing accolades ( Beijing Olympics! ) this champ now graces our halls in a humble yet cheeky manner. We pulled Ross out of his extensive brew schedule to ask him some very important questions.
Who are you? Ross Brown.
What’s your gig? Brewery Team Leader.
Tell us a bit about Gage Roads from your perspective?
A proudly West Aussie brewery, full of great people who love beer and produce some awesome brews.
How did you get into beer?
My parents bought me a home brew kit for my 17th birthday. My birthday is in October, so it was a mad rush to get a brew done and bottled in time for schoolies… not that I drunk anything of course!
When you’re not here we’ll find you…
At the beach, on the river, going for a run, or maybe at one of WA’s many great craft beer venues.
I hear you’re pretty handy with an oar…
I did spend a large chunk of my life wearing lycra, in a boat, going backwards…..Fortunately it involved plenty of travel and a great opportunity to try the local brew wherever I was training and racing!
What was the last gift you gave someone?
I gave my dog Darcy a cylinder of tennis balls, he was ecstatic to say the least.
The good, the bad, & the ugly of being in a brewery?
Good – Delicious beer!
Bad – We brew 24hrs a day……night shifts can be a struggle
Ugly – My colleagues’ excessive facial hair
Your favourite style of beer right now? How come?
Different beer for different occasions, I reckon. 8 Wired is my favourite brewery – I can’t go past their Hop wired IPA, Saison and i-Stout. I’m currently drinking my way through an Australian beer advent calendar. I’m loving trying great new beers from a whole range of breweries, some of which I’d never even heard of.
A penguin walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
Las margaritas son de mí! – He’s packing a bottle of tequila under the sombrero.
What do you think cats dream about?
How much better it would be to be a dog.
What kitchen utensil would you be?
A bottle opener….what else?!
