In partnership with VICE Australia, we bring you “The Coast is Clear”, a three-part documentary series that explores coastal freedom by diving into the depth of Australia’s coastal subcultures.
Last year we brought you Episodes 1 & 2, exploring longboarding and freediving. This summer we bring you Episode 3, exploring highlining. Known as the big brother of slacklining, highlining is equal parts meditative and exhilarating, according to Australian highliners Tom Oliver and Jack Vitnell, who we follow on an expedition to a secret highlining spot on the coast of New South Wales.
In Episode I, ‘ Drop Out, Drop By’, Northern Rivers longboarder and actor Kaho Andronicus shows us his studio and catches up with pro surfer and surfboard shaper Kai Ellice-Flint to talk about the unique culture of longboarding.
In Episode 2, ‘Get Low to Get High’, we look under the surface of freediving with Adam Stern, one of the best freedivers in the world, who describes getting into the water as “the equivalent of washing my brain”.
